Fun and Easy Screen-Free Activities for Kids in Singapore (3 to 7 Years Old)

You know, last time in Singapore, family life was really different.

Everyone squeezed into one flat, cousins running everywhere, and entertainment was just simple games or whatever you could find around the house.

Now, kids are glued to screens, but honestly, there are so many other things they can do at home.

Just need a bit of creativity and sometimes, a bit of supervision.

Let me share some old-school vibes and modern ideas, and I will tell you which activity suits which age group.

Why Screen-Free Activities Are Still Shiok

Last time, there was no iPad and no Netflix.

We played chapteh, five stones, or hide and seek at the void deck.

Do you remember some games like Pepsi Cola?

Now, with all the tech, it is easy for kids to just sit and watch.

But too much screen time can make them restless and miss out on learning through play.

Doing things together at home helps them grow, builds memories, and gives you some good bonding time too.

Here's some activities that we break down that need supervision or not.

I know, some parents throw device because they just want don't supervise their kids.

Need Supervision (15–45 mins)

Some activities need you to be around.

Either because can get messy or got safety issue.

These are the moments where you can really bond, laugh, and maybe even share your own childhood stories.

1. Arts & Crafts (Scissors, Glue, Paint)

Suitable for: 3–7 years old

My mum used to keep old ang bao packets and egg cartons for us to make lanterns and animals.

Now, you can do the same.

Just help with the scissors and glue, and let your kid’s creativity run wild.

Usually can last 20 to 30 minutes before they get restless.

2. Baking or Simple Cooking

Suitable for: 4–7 years old

I still remember the first time helping my mum bake pineapple tarts for Chinese New Year.

She let me roll the dough and shape the tarts, but always reminded me, “Be careful, oven very hot.”

Let your kids help with the fun parts.

You handle the dangerous ones.

Thirty to forty-five minutes, and you get to eat together after.

Or you can do pizza. One of the easiest if you have an Airfryer or Oven.

The Pizza Dough you can use the prata one. No Mess.

Just some tomato paste, some ingredients of your choice!

3. Obstacle Course (Indoor or Corridor)

Suitable for: 3–7 years old

Last time, we used to jump over slippers and crawl under tables.

Now, you can set up your own mini obstacle course at home.

Twenty to thirty minutes of fun, but must supervise so nobody gets hurt.

4. Science Experiments (Volcano, Mixing)

Suitable for: 4–7 years old

My dad once showed me how vinegar and baking soda can make a volcano.

I was so amazed.

Just be ready to clean up after.

Fifteen to thirty minutes, confirm got “wah” moments.

5. Board Games (Play Together)

Suitable for: 5–7 years old

Games like Snakes and Ladders or Old Maid always brought the family together after dinner.

Fifteen to thirty minutes, and you can teach them about winning and losing graciously.

Some other games like Spot it and Charade can be fun too.

6. Gardening

Suitable for: 3–7 years old

My neighbour’s grandma used to grow chilli padi and pandan leaves in recycled Milo tins.

Let your kid water the plants or dig a bit.

Just watch out for bugs.

Twenty to thirty minutes, and they learn about nature. But this one very messy lah.

7. Outdoor Play (Playground Downstairs)

Suitable for: 3–7 years old

Last time, playground was just sand and metal slides.

Now, got fancy equipment, but still need you to watch over them.

Thirty to forty-five minutes, and they come home tired and happy.

No Need Supervision (10–30 mins)

These activities are best when you need to settle your own things, like cook dinner or reply WhatsApp.

Just set up, and let them play on their own.

Of course, still keep one ear open, but no need to hover.

1. Drawing, Colouring, Sticker Books

Suitable for: 3–7 years old

I used to spend hours doodling on scrap paper or colouring old calendars.

Give your kids some paper and crayons, and let them create.

Fifteen to thirty minutes of quiet time. If you have a printer, print out some coloring stuffs. Print their favourite characters; Let them color.

2. Building Blocks, LEGO, Stacking Cups

Suitable for: 3–7 years old

My cousin could build a whole kampung out of wooden blocks.

Let your child’s imagination take over.

Fifteen to thirty minutes, sometimes even longer if they really focused.

3. Puzzles

Suitable for: 4–7 years old

We have super alot of puzzles. And for different age group. If they pick up well, they can be good for quiet time, ten to twenty minutes, and they feel so proud when they finish.

If not, every 3 mins will call you out already.

Pretend Play (Soft Toys, Dolls, Cars)

Suitable for: 3–7 years old

We used to play mama shop with bottle caps and old biscuit tins.

Now, your child can act out stories with their toys.

Fifteen to thirty minutes, and you get some peace.

Sensory Bins (Rice, Beans, Water Beads)

Suitable for: 3–6 years old

My mum used to let us play with uncooked rice in a basin, scoop and pour for ages.

Just make sure nothing too small for them to swallow.

Ten to twenty minutes, can keep them entertained.

Playdough / Slime

Suitable for: 3–7 years old

Homemade or store-bought, just give them cutters and shapes.

Fifteen to thirty minutes, and they can make all sorts of food or animals.

Somehow kids really like playdough. I also don't know why.

Another one is Slime. But this one, if you don't supervise mucht the slime get into the hair then super GG.

Simple Chores (Folding Towels, Sorting Laundry)

Suitable for: 4–7 years old

My mum always said, “Help out a bit, good for you.”

Let your kids help with easy chores.

Ten to fifteen minutes, and sometimes they want to do more. But maybe every 5 mins will call for help again.

the Simple Moments

Family life in Singapore has changed a lot, but the heart of it, spending time together, teaching and learning from each other, still the same.

Whether you are doing crafts, baking, or just letting your kids play quietly, these moments will become their own stories to share next time.

So, do not worry if your child is not always glued to the screen.

Sometimes, the best memories are made with simple things at home.
